Roger is a native Kansan, having grown up in the Republican River Valley, near the small community of Alida, northwest of Junction City. After graduating from Dickinson County Community High School in Chapman, he studied Art at Bethany College in Lindsborg, where he played football and sang in the College Choir before transferring to Kansas State University to study Architecture. After graduating, he obtained a position with a Longmont, Colorado firm and subsequently opened his own architectural office in Estes Park, Colorado, which has flourished for over 40 years. With licenses in 16 states and 2 Canadian provinces, Roger’s work has garnered over 45 design awards and presently includes residential commissions, libraries, community and recreation centers, and a performing arts center with a river running through it!

Roger has always enjoyed drawing and sketching, and has a particular affinity for historic structures that have endured and stood the test of time. To celebrate his 60th birthday, he and his high school sweetheart wife Verlene, traveled across the entire state of Kansas, photographically documenting county courthouses that date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which prominently displayed tall towers of some sort. Thought Roger had known of the Chase County Courthouse before, it was this special trip that sealed a special bond and appreciation for this most unique of all the remaining historic Kansas courthouses.
