Wet Wednesday

On a day when the weather disagrees with you, it’s hard to get up and get going, sometimes.  But there’s nothing better to chase away the rainy-day-blues than to head out to a place that is just as much a museum of art as it is a store!  We at Prairie PastTimes are all artists, and we love having the medium to show you our talent, as well as see it go home with someone who appreciates it.  So come on down, today!  We opened at 11, and we’re here until 5!

Today, one of our most talented ladies is commanding the register!  Judy Dodson does some of our amazing stained glass work, and she loves to talk about her techniques as she shows you the sparkling pieces in the windows.

Judy’s bluebird (below) has been featured on our Mother’s Day posts and on our Facebook page quite a lot, recently!  You can see just from the movement in the piece how much love and dedication she’s put into her craft.

Judy calls her pieces “Glass Post Cards” because they are usually smaller than your average stained glass piece, and give a unique insight to the beauty of the prairie.  She has also begun studying a new technique called “copper foil overlay” and it’s creating quite the new level to her art!

Stop in today to ask her more about her technique and her inspiration (or click on her name, above, to see her artist page!).  She’ll be there until 5 and she would love to tell you all about the beauty of the prairie, even on a wet Wednesday!

Today’s Mother’s Day!

Today is a very special day for all mothers around the world, and Prairie PastTimes doesn’t want you to miss out on an amazing gift!  Today, Janice Glanville, who makes some of our amazing stained glass pieces, is running the store!  She’s given up her own special day to help you make your mom feel loved, and who better to do it?

Janice has been making unique stained glass designs for years, and using it in very innovative ways such as this amazing trinket box!

Janice - jewelry case

It’s perfect for placing jewelry in, or those special keepsakes, like shells Mom’s collected from her trip to the ocean, or those special presents of leaves and flowers that her grandchildren have given her.

If you don’t have the time to wrap up something so delicate, or you need something that will travel a long distance as you catch Mom for dinner, Janice also makes wonderful cards by hand!  You know that they’re special when someone like Janice has put effort into it!

Of course, there are lots of other items in the store, as well!  Paintings and photographs, shawls and books!  The best way to find mom the best gift is to go in and look around!  Janice will be glad to help you out!  She’s there from 11-5 today!

Mother’s Day

Prairie PastTimes is a store created by families, designed for families.  From jewelry, coloring books, dolls clothes and stuffed animals for children, to stained glass, classy hand-dyed silks and beautiful photographs for adults, we’ve really tried to capture the feel of growing up on the Kansas Prairie.

As Mother’s Day nears, we see our art as the perfect gift for all moms.  Each item was crafted with love and attention to detail, and each is one-of-a-kind, just like the amazing women who raised us and put up with our stubborn artist streaks.  Each month we try to display a selection of items we feel would best fit the upcoming holiday.  Here is this month’s:

Beyond that, though, we have so much more to offer!  So here are a few examples of the other wonderful items that could belong to your mom this Sunday!

What mom doesn’t love new jewelry?

What mom doesn’t love soaps and lotions?

What mom doesn’t love new utensils for the kitchen (dads, keep this in mind for Father’s Day, too!)?

What mom doesn’t want a beautiful piece of stained glass in her window, to brighten her day?

These are just a smattering of the amazing items we have available for that special woman we all have to thank on May 8.  Won’t you stop in and take a look at what unique piece your mom would like?  We’re open until 5 pm today!
